| An
amazing experience visiting 4 of India’s National Parks. |
I have just returned from spending four incredible weeks in India and
would like to share my experiences with anyone interested in Wildlife.
I have to admit my main aim was to sight Tigers and I certainly did! I
have been visiting India on a regular basis for the past 7-8 years and
my enthusiasm and true love for this amazing country continues. Speaking
with someone recently who has only visited this diverse country once,
summed up how I feel in few words……quote….’has an emotional hold on one’.
How true.
I was introduced
to Geeta and Guri and Joint Adventures
when speaking with a dear Indian friend who suggested I contact them as
I was considering doing a Wildlife Tour. I could not have wished for more.
They arranged everything for me. I spent 3 nights in Bandhavgarh
(Garden of Eden) set amongst the Vindhyan Hills of Madhya Pradesh
where the Tiger sightings were truly magnificent. 8 Tigers; 12 actual
sightings along with everything this National Park has to offer.
Early morning
and afternoon jeep rides along with picnic breakfasts. I stayed at Tiger
Trails Resort, situated just outside the park where the accommodation
is made up of individual cottages where one is looked after by very attentive
staff. Taxi drive to Kanha National Park for another 3 days. My room at
Wild Chalet Resort overlooked the River Banjar a subsidiary
of the Narmada, one of India’s seven sacred rivers. Again early morning
jeep rides with a very experienced Naturalist. Sightings of Gaur (Bison)
unique to this park) and Barasingha unique to Kanha.
I returned
to Delhi for a few days by train…. an experience not to be missed if one
hasn’t already travelled by Indian rail!! I continued to Corbett National
Park to spend 3 days with Geetaa and Guri and what a fantastic time I
had. Their enthusiasm for wildlife was infectious. I discovered what Jungle
life was all about. Not only the Tiger (which again I had 4 sightings
both jeep and elephant back) but of the amazing number of birds, animals,
flora and fauna and incredible scenery. I had the privilege of staying
inside Corbett where Geeta entertained me with her amazing
variety of Indian cuisine which I so enjoyed. Everything was done with
such style inspite of being in the heart of the Jungle! Evenings were
spent sitting under starlit skies with a drink in hand listening to the
sounds of the Jungle. Jackal tentatively snooping around. Herds of Chittal
grazing. The alarm calls of the Sambar or Chittal warning that a predator
was on the prowl. Exciting sounds. One evening after supper we heard rustling
sounds. Suddenly were aware that a herd of elephants were making their
way down to the nearby river. I continued my travels to Dudwha
National Park situated on the borders of Nepal home to the Swamp
deer, One-horned Rhino and Bengal Florican. Each of the parks have their
own charm, however, I have a special love for Dudwha having visited it
numerous times but will definitely be returning to Corbett having experienced
so much and have so much more to discover and see. I have now been back
in the U.K for three weeks and am homesick for India and am already planning
my return visit with Geetaa and Guri.

I want to tell you about Guri and Geeta from Joint Adventures.
Oh my god, what an experience I had with them!!! I had been going back and
forth about whether to go to Ranthambore tiger park or Corbett with Guri
and Geeta. Ok, so I'll admit my shortcomings...Ranthambore appealed to me
mostly because of Vanyavilas which offers these amazing luxury tent accommodations.
Traveling to Corbett meant 'roughing it' in comparison. I chose to do Corbett
with Joint Adventures and I couldn't be happier with my choice!!!! Not only
was Corbett amazingly beautiful and exciting, but my time with Guri and
Geeta is something I will never in my life forget. So smart, enthusiastic,
and knowledgable about the park and all the wildlife...they made it such
a wonderful experience for me.
One of the highlights was Geeta's homemade cooking throughout our stay!
What a cook!!! I guess the best part though had to be getting to know them
and life in India. They really had such an amazing effect on me. Two incredible
people that I truly love and can't wait to get back to India to see again.
Experiencing all the amazing sights of Corbett, getting charged by a wild
elephant, and yes, SPOTTING A TIGER!!!, was all the more meaningful having
shared it with them. I felt as if I were there with old friends. Again they
are much more adventurous than I'm afraid I have the capacity to be, but
their love of nature and wildlife has totally inspired me to go back on
one of their treks into the Himalayas. (Yikes!). I just can't say enough
wonderful things about my time with them in Corbett. I miss their warmth,
their sense of humor, their childlike enthusiasm which was so infectious!
Well, I just wanted to share that with any of you who may be interested.
I hope the info helps. I'd be happy to pass on any other info if anybody
out there is interested. And if you are reading this, contemplating going
to India for your first time, but a little intimidated as I was...JUST GO!!!!
Even if it means playing it a little 'safe' and using a travel agent to
set you up with guides ahead of time...just get there!!! I can't wait to
go back! .

We all
agree--- it was wonderful to spend so much
time with you, who are now such really good friends.
It's always a little concerning when one
arranges such a special trip with people one doesn't know as it
must
also be for you but everything worked out so well & we had a
simply wonderful
experience both in Corbett's & also in the mountains--- again
thank you both
so very much.

We were
truly priviledged to spend 10 days with Geeta and Guri on an adventure
of a lifetime in accomodation varying from very basic, where Geeta
somehow cooked 3 course gourmet cuisines on a log fire, to sumptuous
at Rachel and Bhooi's farm, to heavanly on the top of a mountain
at Jilling. Everywhere we went we were made to feel very comfortable
and the experience was a delectable mixture of fun, pleasure, excitement
and adrenelin (close encounters with tigers!!!)
The true beauty of having Geeta and Guri as guides is that they
have chosen to make a career out of their favourite hobby, so it
is a calling, not a job....
the benefits
of this are the constant feeling of excitement and wonder at all
sights and sounds in the jungle, and their vast knowledge of bird
species and jungle lore. Seeing tigers is a side effect of integrating
with the jungle... and we were certainly blessed with our 13 tiger
sightings over the 3 days we were in Corbett National Park. But
also equally blessed by the wonderful elephant family which allowed
us to view some of its intimacies... the 2 Aunties 'chatting' away
while the young teenage bull tried it on (with no success... she
was too tall!!!) with an 'older woman'!!! And we watched 72 different
species of birds over the 10 day trip...WOW!!!
THANK YOU, you two lovely people, and thanks too, to my mum who
has talked to me about India for my whole life and chose to share
her love of the country with me by treating me to this amazing trip
